Quantity Surveyor.

Candidates must have passed the final examination of the Chartered Surveyors Institution in the "Quantities" Sub-division, and be experienced in taking off, abstracting and billing of quantities, measuring up, adjusting bills and routine work in the Architectural Office.

Candidates should be unmarried and between the ages of 23 and 30.

£480 per annum rising by 5 annual increments of £20, 2 of £40, 5 of £20 and 4 of £30 to £880. There is an efficiency bar at £700.

Salaries are converted for payment in local currency at a rate fixed from time to time by Government. They are at present paid at the rate of 1/3 - $1 so long as the Treasury rate of the dollar based on the average monthly rate of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank remains at or below that rate.

Partially furnished quarters are provided, but the number of quarters is limited, and they are not usually allotted to an officer with no wife or children in the Colony. officer occupying Government quarters pays 7% of his salary as rent. When quarters are not available, rent allowance is paid to a married officer who rents a separate self contained tenement on a scale graduated from $150 to $250 per month, less 6% of the officer's salary. An officer with wife or family in the Colony who lives otherwise than in Government quarters or in a separate self contained tenement, lodging allowance to a maximum of $100 per month; and an unmarried officer or an officer with no wife or children in the Colony in similar cir- cumstances an allowance to a maximum of $50 per month. The payment of this allowance is subject to the conditions laid down in Hong Kong General Orders.
